![]() ![]() Surprisingly, her women seem more one-toned, forced to exhibit and focus on whatever their strongest characteristic is, throughout the book. Even the ones with stronger shades of gray in their character exhibit equally strong redeeming qualities. ![]() Her men are gentle, understanding, well-read and, competent with a high emotional quotient. The author has filled this book with men that have charming personalities and are far more interesting than her women. The completeness the author brings to the story, closing all the links between her characters and their respective journeys, helps her case here. Some aspects of the book are slightly disappointing- there are too many coincidences, too much passion (or at least passion and need that I don’t understand) and too many twists that are easy to predict. I was intently turning every page, looking for answers, looking for how the characters’ lives unraveled in this version. We’ve heard the story across different themes and ages, but the writing is warm and inviting. Now I know, that if there’s something Iranians love unanimously, it is their tea and khoresh. This is a love story of a 17 year old girl in 1952 Iran, her life and journey to a whole new world with splashes of Persian words, cultural and political references used to add color. ![]() ![]() But my God, is this bottle beautifully made! So beautiful that it heightened my urge to keep drinking. Having seeen and heard love stories of different permutations and combinations, this one can easily be categorized as ‘Old wine in new bottle’. ![]()
